Louis van Gaal has given updates with regards to Chris Smalling, Morgan Schneiderlin and the rest of Manchester United’s injury-hit squad.

United are currently suffering from injuries to nine first team players, with Smalling and Matteo Darmian adding to those ranks in the 3-2 defeat to Wolfsburg in the Champions League in midweek.

Van Gaal says Smalling and Darmian, as well as Ander Herrera, should return soon, while Wayne Rooney, Phil Jones, Antonio Valencia Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw remain sidelined.

“I believe Chris Smalling, Ander Herrera and Matteo Darmian will be back before Christmas,” Van Gaal told MUTV.

“Schneiderlin is coming back so that’s not a problem but we have a list of eight players injured and Marcos Rojo has been operated on this week and it takes a long time.

“These injuries are very heavy real madrid soccer jersey – Shaw and Valencia have also been operated on and that’s our problem.”

Schneiderlin, who was taken off in the 0-0 draw against West Ham with a hip injury, forcing him to miss Tuesday’s clash with Wolfsburg, will return against Bournemouth.

Bastian Schweinsteiger will begin his three-match ban against the Cherries in Saturday’s late kick-off.

As Daniel Storey wrote in Big Weekend:

‘Given the injuries, Van Gaal might have to select a back four of Guillermo Varela, Daley Blind, Cameron Borthwick-Jackson and Paddy McNair. Good luck to all concerned.’

McClaren ‘could not shut players up’ at half-time

Share this Page   View all comments () McClaren ‘could not shut players up’ at half-time

Date published: Monday 14th December 2015 10:05

Steve McClaren admitted that he ‘couldn’t shut his players up’ at half-time during Newcastle’s comeback win over Spurs.

Newcastle came from behind to beat Spurs thanks to a last-minute goal from substitute Ayoze Perez, crowning first back-to-back wins for the Magpies since November last year.

This was also Newcastle’s first victory from behind since beating Everton 3-2 last December, while the win at White Hart Lane lifts them up to 15th, two points above the relegation zone and, hilariously, one point above Chelsea.

McClaren praised the response from his players, with Newcastle 1-0 down at half-time after conceding through an Eric Dier header.

“This was a win for the players,” McClaren said. “Half-time was a big test for this team. We’ve come in at half-time before and the arsenal soccer jersey dressing room has been quiet and disappointed, but it was so vocal?here. There was such a determination among the players not to lead down the?normal path of losing the game. The response in the second half was fantastic.

“There was so much going on in there – Robbie Elliot, Fabricio Coloccini, to be fair, all of them. We couldn’t shut them up, and they took it on board. That’s the pleasing thing for me. We’ve not won back-to-back games for over a year, we’ve not had a comeback win for about a year, so to do it was immense. You can talk and talk but the players did it on the field.”

McClaren added that Newcastle?were always “only two days away from another crisis,” but revelled in the Spurs win after a morale-boosting 2-0 victory over Liverpool last week.

“There have been two excellent performances and results,” McClaren said. “We said after Liverpool: ‘That’s what we are. That’s what we want to be.’ And today: ‘That’s what we are. That’s what we want to be.’ We want to be this every week. It only comes from a platform or a bed of hard work and attitude and commitment and discipline. And the players had that. When they do that, we have got a chance of winning games.

“We’ve had difficult times and the season has been up and down. We’ve asked for consistency and the last two weeks have provided that, on the back of a lot of criticism. But there’s still a long way to go. And we’ve got a tough one next Saturday against Aston Villa.

“I haven’t spoken to Mike Ashley. He is probably pleased he saw that. We have had glimpses of that and threatened to do that on occasions. But the character guadalajara soccer jersey in the dressing room was great. It was great to be in there.”

McClaren reserved particular praise for Aleksandar Mitrovic and Perez, who both came off the bench to inspire the visitors to victory.

“All you ask from players is that they give a response,” McClaren said. “If you are on the bench, come on and have an impact. Ayoze and Mitro have not played?so they are disappointed. You can be disappointed, come on and not perform but they were disappointed, came on and showed that they wanted to play. They’ve?won the game for us. Today will do them and the team a world of good.”

Betting Preview Norwich City v Everton

The Toffees have a poor Premier League record at Carrow Road but our tipster is backing Roberto Martinez’s in-form side to take maximum points against the Canaries on Saturday

Everton will look to extend their unbeaten run to eight matches when they travel to Carrow Road to face Norwich City on Saturday.

Romelu Lukaku’s late leveller against Crystal Palace on Monday night means that the Toffees have now gone seven matches without defeat in all competitions – a sequence of results that began with a penalty shoot-out triumph over the Canaries in the Capital One Cup.

Roberto Martinez’s men, though, have picked up just two points from their
wholesale football kits last three Premier League matches away from home and the Toffees can be backed at 7/5 (2.40) with NetBet to take maximum points on their travels against Alex Neil’s struggling side.

Norwich have won just one of their last 10 matches in all competitions, with the Canaries having lost seven of those fixtures with the most recent defeat coming against Watford at Vicarage Road last weekend.

Subsequently, only goal difference has prevented Norwich from dipping into the Premier League drop zone and the home side can be backed at 2/1 (3.0) with NetBet to bag a vital victory.

Given that five of the last seven matches between these two sides in all competitions have ended all square after 90 minutes, draw backers may be tempted to snap up NetBet’s 12/5 (3.40) quote for this match to end in stalemate.

It is worth noting that six of Norwich’s last seven matches in all competitions featured fewer than three goals and, should that trend continue, there could well be value in backing no more than two goals to be scored at 10/11 (1.91) with NetBet, while the same firm go 11/10 (2.10) that either side fails to
thailand soccer jersey find the net.

However, punters should note that Everton have found the net in each of their last six matches away from Goodison Park and have scored an impressive 15 goals in their last five top-flight fixtures.

With that in mind, the 6/5 (2.20) quote from NetBet for Martinez’s men to score two or more goals against the Canaries certainly carries appeal.

Everton have beaten Norwich just once in seven visits to Carrow Road in the Premier League, but with the Toffees in fine form, they look to be excellent value at 7/5 (2.40) with NetBet to improve upon that record this weekend.

Dirty Bastian banned for three matches

Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger has accepted a Football Association charge of violent conduct and will serve a three-match suspension, the governing body has announced.

The German international stuck out his left arm and caught West Ham defender Winston Reid in the throat as both players jostled for position from a first-half free-kick during the goalless draw at Old Trafford on Saturday.

The incident was not mentioned in referee Mark Clattenburg’s post-match report as he did not see the clash, leaving the FA free to punish Schweinsteiger retrospectively.

“Bastian Schweinsteiger will serve a three-match suspension with immediate effect after he accepted an FA charge for violent conduct which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video,” said a statement on

United had refused to speak about the incident ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League defeat at Wolfsburg, but West Ham were adamant that Schweinsteiger was guilty of foul play.

“He knows what he’s done – he’s elbowed me in the face,” Reid said after the game.

And West Ham manager Slaven Bilic added: “It’s a clear red card. A straight red without any doubts. It was a moment of madness.

“He deserved to be sent off, but the referee told me he didn’t see it. Fair enough, I believe it. It was an elbow.”

Schweinsteiger juventus soccer jersey will now miss United’s next three Barclays Premier League games, away to Bournemouth on Saturday as well as the visit of Norwich on December 19 and the Boxing Day trip to Stoke.

The 31-year-old’s absence will come as a further blow to United’s injury-hit squad, even though manager Louis van Gaal suggested Schweinsteiger under-performed in the 3-2 defeat at Wolfsburg, and that is why he was substituted.

“I CHEAP SOCCER UNIFORMS have changed him and I don’t change players for nothing, (it’s because) I think I can do better with other players, but we are all human beings and also Bastian Schweinsteiger is a human being,” Van Gaal said after the game in Germany.

“He wants to play at the highest level and certainly in Germany to show his qualities, but I cannot say that he was the Schweinsteiger from my period in Munich today.”

But Schweinsteiger received support from Germany head coach Joachim Low following Van Gaal’s criticism.

“We at the German Football Association know what we are getting with Bastian,” Low told the Bild newspaper.

“He’s still a world-class player and undisputedly our captain.

“You’ve got to give even an experienced player like him time to adapt to a new league.

“I am sure that Manchester United are still going to get a lot of joy out of Schweinsteiger.”

Bilic called Schweinsteiger’s actions “unnecessary” on Thursday, but insisted he did not want the German international banned.

“To be fair I didn’t want him to be suspended, because now I want Manchester United to win games!” Bilic said at his press conference to preview the weekend’s home game with Stoke.

“So I only said my opinion about what happened during the game – he deserved, for that, to be sent off.

“But do I want him to be banned now? No, I want him to play.

“It wasn’t nasty or dangerous but it was unnecessary and it was a red card because Reid did nothing wrong.”

"If I need to know more of Newcastle, I would take information. We have to play football against them."

Former England manager McClaren has been given a rude awakening to life at St James’ Park, acknowledging confidence was low in the dressing room following last weekend’s 5-1 hammering at Crystal Palace.

"We have to see some light and then keep going. We have good players and they need to come through this.

"The way they are playing there is effort there, it is just a lack of confidence."
