The coach says the absence of the four-time Ballon d’Or winner has complicated the upcoming World Cup qualifiers, but despite praise for Neymar he insists Brazil are not favourites

Argentina coach Gerardo Martino has admitted that the absence of "the best player in the world" Lionel Messi will impact his

women soccer jerseys side against Brazil and Colombia.

The Albiceleste face two key World Cup qualifiers after suffering a poor start to the Conmebol campaign, picking up just one point from six.

And the coach recognised that not having the Barcelona star for either of the games leaves his side with an uphill task.

"Whether you win or lose, the absence of the best player in the world will always be felt," he said in Wednesday’s press conference.

"We had problems [with injuries] in the last international round and we have had them again. When you face a national team with such important players missing it is a relief for any side."

Despite being short of the likes of Messi, Sergio Aguero and Carlos Tevez, Martino insisted that Argentina could still prevail at home to Dunga’s side.

"Brazil are not favourites, this is a derby and the conditions are

GERMAN SOCCER JERSEYS the same for each team," he affirmed.

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – When Omar Cummings came on in the 67th minute of the Colorado Rapids’ 2-1 loss to the Seattle Sounders last Saturday, it provided a glimmer of hope for the team’s injury-bitten strike force.

Cummings scored his first goal in nearly three months Saturday, volleying in Luis Zapata’s cross in the 79th minute.

Seven minutes later, Cummings seemed to have added a second on a nifty back heel. But the goal to be ruled offside.

The home side was unable to make up for its heavy defeat to Real Madrid in the Champions League, suffering a frustrating draw.

Liverpool spurned the chance to end a difficult few days with a win as the Reds were held to a 0-0 Premier League draw by Hull City on Saturday.

Brendan Rodgers' side was convincingly beaten by Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, with Mario Balotelli's performance and halftime shirt swap causing controversy.

However, Rodgers kept faith with the Italian for Saturday's Premier League clash at Anfield and the former Milan striker went close twice in the second half – incredibly hitting an effort straight at Eldin Jaukopovic from five yards with the last kick of the game.

Liverpool's attacking ranks looked disjointed at times as it missed out on the chance to record a third consecutive top-flight victory, although the team's first clean sheet at Anfield since March will serve as a small positive.

Steve Bruce's side is now three unbeaten on the road after a solid defensive showing stifled the hosts, adding to last weekend's point picked up at Arsenal.

Robbie Brady – replacing the injured Andrew Robertson at left wingback – struggled to get to grips with Raheem Sterling early on and the former Manchester United trainee was perhaps fortunate to see the England man pulled up for hand ball after bundling him over in the penalty area.

Dejan Lovren's header was then kept out by Ahmed Elmohamady on the line after nine minutes before Balotelli was denied by Jakupovic from a narrow angle, though Hull's third-choice goalkeeper, making a rare outing due to injuries to Allan McGregor and Steve Harper, was rarely tested.

Having sat deep for much of the half, Hull found its feet just before the interval with Jake Livermore bringing a save out of Simon Mignolet after good work from Hatem Ben Arfa on the right before a fierce Tom Huddlestone volley deflected just wide off Martin Skrtel.

Liverpool dominated after the break and Balotelli looked set to register his first league goal for the club just after the hour but an acrobatic clearance from Brady kept the scores level and Sterling's firm effort on the rebound was gathered comfortably by Jakupovic.

The frustration continued for Liverpool and Balotelli as a third penalty shout was waved away after a clumsy challenge from Alex Bruce before the Italian spurned the final chance of the game.

Substitute Coutinho crossed after good work down the left and Balotelli could only hit his effort at the goalkeeper as Hull clung on for a point.

AMSTERDAM – Sacha Kljestan and Anderlecht punched their ticket into the group phase of the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday with a patient 2-0 win over Cypriot guests AEL Limassol.

After the Mauves had hit twice in the final 10 minutes to score a 3-2 aggregate win, the US international picked up a stoppage time yellow card. Anderlecht will be in seeding pot No. 3 in Friday’s group stage draw, the first time they’ve made it that far since 2006-07.

Meanwhile, Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona were relegated to the Europa League group phase after a damning 1-1 home draw against BATE Borisov played without injured midfielder Bryan Gerzicich. The Israeli champs are in seeding pot No. 4 for that tourney’s draw, also to be held on Friday.

Several Americans took part in a heavy Capital One League Cup slate in England, with Jonathan Spector scoring in a losing cause as Birmingham City were bounced from the second round by a 3-2 extra-time defeat at Coventry City.

Stuck in the middle of an eight-game winless streak, FC Dallas found themselves struggling to hold leads and score goals. At one point during the streak, FCD went 231 minutes without finding net.

Against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night, the offense finally started firing on all cylinders. They poured it on during the last 25 minutes, tallying twice, putting the home side on the back foot often and generally looking like a revitalized team.

OPTA Chalkboard: FCD get it going down the stretch, but it's not enough

And it wasn’t enough. DespiteGermany Soccer Jersey all their efforts, the winless streak hit nine as FCD crumbled in stoppage time, conceding a Nat Borchers goal in the 93rd minute to fall 3-2.

Nonetheless, head coach Schellas Hyndman is choosing to look on the bright side.

“We got realistically two guys running at you," he told MLSsoccer.com of his short-handed side. "We have Blas Pérez and Jackson. Everyone else is just filling holes right now. It’s encouraging to score two goals.”

And it was encouraging to see his side fight almost to the last against the table-topping Claret-and-Cobalt.

“I think it’s more encouraging to come back twice and not give up with the adversity that was out there,” Hyndman said.

Pérez, who leads the team with five goals this season, spent most of the time complaining to referees about a lack of calls, but came through in the clutch and tied the game 2-2 deep in the second half.

The veteran striker claims that his score was somewhat of a silver lining, but with nearly a month-long break coming up, FCD need to do more than score a couple of goals.

“We need to take this loss and understand that we need to better ourselves a lot,” Pérez said. “It’s not worth anything if we go out and score and fight until the end if they score a goal to win it at the end. The work is just thrown to the floor.”

FCD need to earn points or this season could very well be over by the end of summer. However, Pérez believes the break will benefit the team by allowing key players to recover from injuries and to regain a focus that will allow them to make a run and finally break the winless habits.

“There are still a lot of games left. We have a lot of time to get healthy,” he said. “We’re going to try to do the right things so we can come back and get points.”

But Mayen has been there, risen through the Los Angeles soccer scene and played 20 times in MLS. He opines that, in his experience, there also must be room for experienced heads in the dressing room. He points to the major influence veterans like Jesse Marsch and Ante Jazic had on his career coming up the Chivas USA youth ranks.

As for an eventual return, Mayen makes no secret of the fact he wants another chance to prove himself in MLS one day and seems to be on the right track in El Salvador.

FAS currently lie in fourth place in El Salvador’s first division off the back of a seven-game unbeaten run in which Mayen has started six matches. He’s currently enjoying a purple patch of form that he hopes will lead to a call-up from the El Salvador national team next year.

“Being here opens doors,” said Mayen. “The national team can look at you, if you do well. That’s what I’m hoping for.”

Although the Salvadoran first division may not have the glamor of other leagues, Mayen is keen to emphasize that starting games and getting minutes is no guarantee for an American playing there, especially at big clubs like FAS and Águila.

Italy Serie A Jerseys Union’s Hackworth bemoans poor first-half effort in Toronto

Union's Hackworth bemoans poor first-half effort in Toronto

The Philadelphia Union spent the past two weeks of training working on their finishing.

But Saturday in Toronto, the Union learned you can’t finish what you don’t start.

In another mostly disappointing performance, Philly mustered only one shot on target – which, credit to them, resulted in a goal – in a 1-1 draw with last-place Toronto FC.

Afterwards, Union manager John Hackworth bemoaned his team’s performance, especially in a lifeless first half.

“We didn’t play very well today,” Hackworth said. “It might have been one of our poorest first-half performances this year. It’s a little bit frustrating because it felt like our team was ready to play much better than that after the break; we had a good two weeks of training. But you have to give credit to Toronto because they made it very difficult on us.”

Although the Union only got off three shots and didn’t force Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic to make any saves, they did a little bit better in the second half, following a stern talking-to from Hackworth during the halftime break.

Early in the second half, Philly controlled possession and strung many passes together in the attacking third, but didn’t have much to show for it. Later in the second half, Hackworth dipped into his offensive bag of goodies, bringing on strikers Antoine Hoppenot and Chandler Hoffman, as well as playmaking midfielder Roger Torres.

And it was all three of those subs that created the run-up to Philly’s only goal, with Torres making a run into the box and leaving it for Hoffman, who passed it out wide to Hoppenot.

OPTA Chalkboard: Missed chances, late lapse haunt TFC

Hoppenot then delivered a low cross that defender Sheanon Williams put home to tie the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute. But the Union couldn’t get another goal to snap their winless streak, which is now at seven games.

“In the second half, ireplica soccer Jerseyt had to be different and I think we did that,” Williams said. “Even at the end, we thought that we could steal the game, so I think we have to be happy about the second-half performance and that the turnaround was a lot better than the first half.”

Unfortunately for the Union, soccer games are two halves. And for the second time this season, they left Toronto with a feeling that they could have played a lot better, from start to finish.

“The game was played on their terms and not the way we wanted to play,” Hackworth said. “That’s a classic battle in soccer. You want to try and dictate rhythm, and we certainly didn’t do that today. Toronto did.”
