FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England midfielder Clyde Simms prepared for his first match against D.C. United by returning to his old home last weekend.

Simms may not play in Washington any longer, but he traveled there to visit his girlfriend and his townhouse in the city during a break in the Revolution's schedule. He even stopped by RFK Stadium to take in Saturday's 0-0 draw between United and Seattle.

“I went to the game and hung out with some of the guys afterward and the next day,” Simms told MLSsoccer.com ahead of Saturday afternoon's clash between the two sides at Gillette Stadium. “One of the guys [Brandon McDonald] actually lived in my basement. He just moved out.”

Joseph: Surprising suspension leaves "hole in my chest"

Simms went through the same process this winter as he made the transition to New England after seven years with United. Simms said it wasn't easy to leave his adopted home, but he quickly tackled the challenge of settling in with a new squad in a new locale.

“It was tough,” Simms said. “There were a few tough moments in preseason, for sure, having to leave there. I'm used to leaving D.C. for preseason, but just knowing that I wasn't going back to D.C. was tough. I'd been there for seven years. But I got along great with the guys, and you're with them so much during the day – you're not really alone during the day during preseason – and that helped a lot.”

Any qualms about making the transition north to Boston quickly dissipated. Simms adjusted to his unfamiliar surroundings and carved out his place within a different squad. New England is, in Simms' words, his new home now.

Simms' comfort in his new surroundings doesn't obscure the fact that this game offers a few more subplots than usual for him. He will likely shrug off a recent bout with calf tightness and line up against a few of his former teammates when he presumably takes the field, a prospect all the more likely since Benny Feilhaber is still recovering from injury and Shalrie Joseph is suspended.

Instead of lobbing rhetorical salvos before the match like one of hischeap soccer jersey former teammates – Seattle’s Marc Burch – did last week under similar circumstances, Simms said he plans to let his play – and the Revolution's overall showing – serve as his commentary.

“I don't have anything to say,” Simms said. “We'll do our talking on the field.”

Cooper, Henry wieder synchron in RBNY toben über Toronto

HARRISON, NJ – scherzte New York Red Bulls Trainer Hans Backe nach seiner Mannschaft 4-1 Sieg gegen Toronto FC am Samstag, dass er die beiden Ziele Kenny Cooper saldiert in den Sieg erzielt haben

.

TORONTO — To say the Canada-US rivalry has been one-sided for the past few decades would be something of an understatement.

Heading into Sunday’s game at BMO Field in Toronto (7 pm ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet, LIVE CHAT on MLSsoccer.com), the Americans are riding an unbeaten streak that spans 27 years. While the US-Mexico rivalry reigns wholesale soccer kitssupreme among North American nations and perhaps in all of CONCACAF – the 49th parallel rivalry is still a matter of great pride for both teams.

WATCH: US, Canada talk rivalry

“It’s always a biggie,” Canadian forward Simeon Jackson said at a press conference Friday. “They’re our next-door neighbors. Usually next-door neighbors don’t like each other when it comes to derbies, but it’s always going to be intense.”

The last time Canada won a game between the two countries, Igor Vrablic scored both goals as Canada picked up a 2-0 win at BC Place in Vancouver in 1985. Since then, the closest Canada have come is a loss on penalty kicks in the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup and a handful of draws.

“For me at a personal level, I’ve played with one of their teammates – Julian de Guzman – for a few years and it means a lot to me to be able to beat him,” joked American defender Steve Cherundolo. “There was always a little bit of talk back and forth, so it’s an important game for me personally.”

Sunday’s game is part of the centennial celebrations of the Canadian Soccer Association. Canada’s first game after the organization formed as the Dominion of Canada Football Association was a 1-0 win over the United States.

On that day, Canada wore a blue jersey and in the spirit of the occasion; Canada will be wearing a specially designed blue jersey on Sunday as well. In addition, the rivalry between the two sides is a chance to focus on something other than two crucial World Cup qualifiers both sides have upcoming.

“It’s a good distraction, definitely,” said Jackson. “Playing against your neighbors is always a big game and the whole event with the centennial is very big and it’s hopefully going to make a good match as well.”

To be able to score goals is nice. The Dynamo have allowed 34 goals for the season, most in MLS.• “As a team, we’ve got to look at what happened … We’ve got to address what let the goals in,” said midfielder Andrew Driver. “It’s about improving every week and every week cutting out the goals. We’ve still got to be critical to ourselves, because we’ve got to keep improving, got to start winning. We can’t sweep it under the carpet. It’s got to be out there, and we’ve got to correct it.”• Added right back Kofi Sarkodie: “The game’s won in the box on both sides of the pitch, defending and attacking,” said. “If we finish in the final third and we defend in our final third, then we win matches. [Friday] I think we showed some characteristics of scoring in their final third, and we’ve got to continue to do a better job at box defending.”• Brad Davis converted a late penalty in his first game back with the Dynamo since May 11, the goal putting an end to the club’s losing streak after five games, also a club record.• “It wouldn’t be the first time that Brad’s brought this team out of a difficult run,” goalkeeper Tally Hall said. “But no, Brad can’t be the only guy to step on the field and say, ‘Hey, I got this.’ It is and always has been a team sport and we need 11 guys on the field working as one and playing to the best of their abilities.”• Ricardo Clark made his first start since April 23, and contributed his second assist of the season. He had come on as a substitute the week before after missing nine league matches with concussion.• “It goes without saying I think it showed. It really gave our fans and us a lift.”• Eric Brunner made his first league start of the season, coming into central defense after two consecutive substitute appearances. David Horst was on the bench as he continues to return from a groin injury, and Corey Ashe (knee effusion) and Jermaine Taylor (hip contusion) were injury scratches.
