TORONTO — To say the Canada-US rivalry has been one-sided for the past few decades would be something of an understatement.

Heading into Sunday’s game at BMO Field in Toronto (7 pm ET, NBC Sports Network, Sportsnet, LIVE CHAT on MLSsoccer.com), the Americans are riding an unbeaten streak that spans 27 years. While the US-Mexico rivalry reigns wholesale soccer kitssupreme among North American nations and perhaps in all of CONCACAF – the 49th parallel rivalry is still a matter of great pride for both teams.

WATCH: US, Canada talk rivalry

“It’s always a biggie,” Canadian forward Simeon Jackson said at a press conference Friday. “They’re our next-door neighbors. Usually next-door neighbors don’t like each other when it comes to derbies, but it’s always going to be intense.”

The last time Canada won a game between the two countries, Igor Vrablic scored both goals as Canada picked up a 2-0 win at BC Place in Vancouver in 1985. Since then, the closest Canada have come is a loss on penalty kicks in the 2002 CONCACAF Gold Cup and a handful of draws.

“For me at a personal level, I’ve played with one of their teammates – Julian de Guzman – for a few years and it means a lot to me to be able to beat him,” joked American defender Steve Cherundolo. “There was always a little bit of talk back and forth, so it’s an important game for me personally.”

Sunday’s game is part of the centennial celebrations of the Canadian Soccer Association. Canada’s first game after the organization formed as the Dominion of Canada Football Association was a 1-0 win over the United States.

On that day, Canada wore a blue jersey and in the spirit of the occasion; Canada will be wearing a specially designed blue jersey on Sunday as well. In addition, the rivalry between the two sides is a chance to focus on something other than two crucial World Cup qualifiers both sides have upcoming.

“It’s a good distraction, definitely,” said Jackson. “Playing against your neighbors is always a big game and the whole event with the centennial is very big and it’s hopefully going to make a good match as well.”

Wholesale Soccer Jerseys Backe- Gaudette hasn’t set a foot wrong since NY arrival

Bill Gaudette dives to make a save Photo Credit: Getty Images

HARRISON, N.J. – Bill Gaudette opened some eyes following his standout performance in Puerto Rico’s 2-1 loss to Spain last week, but those kinds of showings are becoming the norm for a goalkeeper who, barely more than a month ago, was an afterthought in MLS.

In the Red Bulls’ 3-2 comeback win over the Portland Timbers on Sunday, Gaudette continued to demonstrate the stellar form that has been the norm since joining New York Bulls from the LA Galaxy in July. The 30-year-old netminder put forth yet another strong outing in the absence of injured rookie Ryan Meara, making three quality saves in the second half to prevent RBNY from falling behind again after fighting back from 2-0 down, opening the door for Heath Pearce to nod home a winner in the final minutes of the match.

SAVE: Gaudette stones Chara on the break

&ldqucheap thailand soccer jersey o;Billy, these games he’s been playing, I think he hasn’t done one mistake so far,” Red Bulls head coach Hans Backe said after the game. “He came up big today with three, four very, very important saves when they had free runners. He’s been great.”

Backe was not the only one to applaud Gaudette’s latest efforts, which have been bordering on heroic since he arrived in New York. Jan Gunnar Solli said after the match that he went over to Gaudette to “give him his best” for what he deemed world-class saves, including a stop after Solli misplayed a ball to give Portland a clear chance.

“The ball got caught underneath my foot and I felt I had the ball, so I was really pissed at myself,” said Solli. “But, again, Bill was there to save me on that occasion.”

Gaudette has recorded three clean sheets in his first seven starts with the Red Bulls and it appears he will hold onto the starting spot when Meara returns from a hip injury (a decision on the rookie’s status is expected to be made this week). And while Gaudette’s game-changing saves are becoming the norm, he insists he is just doing his part to help the Reds Bulls’ cause.

“This is my job, these are my boys, these are the guys I got to grind with every day, these are the guys I go out to dinner with every night,” he said. “… These are my boys, these are the guys I battle for and it was nice to be back with them.”
