Mexico Liga MX Jerseys Kick Off- US do it again, stun Canada amid controversy_3

Star striker Christine Sinclair, who scored all three of Canada’s goals, summed up her feelings afterwards into 36 words, all of which made it crystal clear how devastating the defeat was for a team that appeared to have the final in their sights with minutes remaining.

"We feel like we didn’t lose, we feel like it was taken from us," said Sinclair. "It’s a shame in a game like that, which is so important, that the ref decided the result before the game started.”

Coach John Herdman also laid the blame at the feet of Pederson for making what is certainly an exceedingly rare call, one US coach Pia Sundhage said even she hadn’t seen before, and labelled the victory lucky.

"The ref will have to sleep in bed tonight after watching the replays," Herdman said. "She’s got that to live with that. We’ll move on from this, I wonder if she’ll be ableto.”

Check out ESPN’s roundup from the game, and tune in to NBC Sports Network at 2:30 pm ET on Thursday for the final from Wembley Stadium.

Mission accomplished.

The Seattle Sounders had hoped to lock up their spot in the CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinals by winning Wednesday’s match against Marathón in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. With their 3-2 victory, that’s exactly what they did.

“It’s tremendous,” Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid said. “It’s a goal we set for ourselves that we wanted to qualify tonight. We were able to accomplish that. I was really proud. We put a lot of players out there who aren’t regularly in our starting lineup, but I thought they came through and played very, very well.”

Although the Sounders’ starting lineup featured seven changes from Saturday’s MLS affair, they came out looking like the much better team and controlled possession for much of the first half. That paid off when Sammy Ochoa got his third Champions League goal of the campaign on a header from a Mario Martinez cross in the 11th minute.

For the first time since the US Olympic team crashed out of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in the group stage, US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann met with media on Wednesday afternoon and explained what went wrong.

Kind of.

Klinsmann, who faced several questions about the shock elimination on a teleconference call, vaguely identified a handful of reasons for the ouster, but didn’t hesitate in sticking by his decision to name a college coach, Akron’s Caleb Porter, to the helm of the US Olympic team.

"I think he did a very good job," said Klinsmann, who appointed Porter back in October. "I think it was absolutely the right decision to make him the Olympic team coach. Now based on the result and the outcome of it, now you can argue that maybe a professional coach here or this and this there should have worked out better. I think we know the reason now why it didn’t work out, and it was not because he’s a college coach and not a professional coach. That’s definitely not the case."

LANDOVER, Md. — US manager Jurgen Klinsmann may have made an appeal for gamesmanship, nastiness and the ability to work referees during matches. But is it even possible? Does the American soccer player’s DNA allow for it?

The most iconic soccer players of this generation doesn’t necessarily think so.

“It’s not really in our character as Americans,” Donovan told MLSsoccer.com after the match. “We try to play the game fair. We don’t really dive. We don’t do those kind of things."

Well, then Klinsmann has one tall order he’s faced with. And he admitted as much during an emotional rollercoaster of a postgame press conference after Wednesday night’s 4-1 exhibition loss to Brazil at FedEx Field.

"Obviously, we don’t want to change the characters [of the players]," he said. "But [nastiness] needs to be developed, certainly. How? I don’t know yet."

Girls Soccer Jerseys Crew’s Warzycha likely to field first XI against United

The Columbus Crew have two openings on the roster and three players not under contract, but don’t expect coach Robert Warzycha to turn Saturday’s match in the Carolina Challenge Cup into auditions.

“We have to try to put the best team on the field for [Saturday’s] game, to be honest with you,” he said to MLSsoccer.com Friday. “It’s the final test. We need to not only perform well, we need to win.”

There are several reasons for the urgency: The game against D.C. United is the last of a tournament in Charleston, S.C., that has seen the Crew tie the host Battery (USL Pro) 2-2 and lose 1-0 to Chicago.

“We really want to go out with a win and build some momentum for the season,” goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum said.

The match also marks the end of the preseason. The next time the Crew take the field, at Colorado on March 10, real points will be at stake. With that in mind, Warzycha is trying to lock down a starting XI.

“We want the team [Saturday] that will be close to what we have in Colorado,” he said. “Obviously, it depends on how well it works tomorrow.”

He’s not guaranteeing evaluations of 2012 MLS SuperDraft pick midfielder Kevan George, Montenegrin defender Nemanja Vukovic or MLS veteran midfielder Stephane Auvray of Guadeloupe.

“I want to make sure we play the guys who are going to play next Saturday,” Warzycha said.

Vukovic has the best chance of acquiring a contract because left back is still unsettled. The battle is between incumbent Shaun Francis and former New York Red Bull Carlos Mendes, with Vukovic viewed as a backup if he were to procure a contract.

“We’ll have to see how it goes at left back,” Warzycha said.

Even so, Crew technical director Brian Bliss said it’s not given that the team will utilize the maximum 30 roster spots.

“Maybe one of those [trialists], two of those guys, end up getting signed, but we still continue to look for the Designated Player that could potentially come in the summer, so we’ve got some room there,” he said.

The Crew had offers to three potential DPs rebuffed but will revisit the idea of signing one later in the season.

In the meantime, the team have started formal talks with Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica about signing striker Jairo Arrieta before the April 15 transfer window closes.

It’s possible the Crew will leave a vacancy until the outcome of negotiations is known.

Lining up

Offseason signing Olman Vargas is still working to get in shape afteWholesale soccer uniformr an injury prevented the Costa Rican forward from training prior to coming to Columbus.

“He is getting fit, getting up to the speed of play,” Warzycha said. “He is getting better. He is not there yet.”

Another newcomer, Milovan Mirosevic, will either play beneath forward Emilio Rentería or in the center midfield on Saturday. Dilly Duka, just back from US Under-23 camp, will start at left midfield.

Italy Serie A Jerseys Union’s Hackworth bemoans poor first-half effort in Toronto

Union's Hackworth bemoans poor first-half effort in Toronto

The Philadelphia Union spent the past two weeks of training working on their finishing.

But Saturday in Toronto, the Union learned you can’t finish what you don’t start.

In another mostly disappointing performance, Philly mustered only one shot on target – which, credit to them, resulted in a goal – in a 1-1 draw with last-place Toronto FC.

Afterwards, Union manager John Hackworth bemoaned his team’s performance, especially in a lifeless first half.

“We didn’t play very well today,” Hackworth said. “It might have been one of our poorest first-half performances this year. It’s a little bit frustrating because it felt like our team was ready to play much better than that after the break; we had a good two weeks of training. But you have to give credit to Toronto because they made it very difficult on us.”

Although the Union only got off three shots and didn’t force Toronto goalkeeper Milos Kocic to make any saves, they did a little bit better in the second half, following a stern talking-to from Hackworth during the halftime break.

Early in the second half, Philly controlled possession and strung many passes together in the attacking third, but didn’t have much to show for it. Later in the second half, Hackworth dipped into his offensive bag of goodies, bringing on strikers Antoine Hoppenot and Chandler Hoffman, as well as playmaking midfielder Roger Torres.

And it was all three of those subs that created the run-up to Philly’s only goal, with Torres making a run into the box and leaving it for Hoffman, who passed it out wide to Hoppenot.

OPTA Chalkboard: Missed chances, late lapse haunt TFC

Hoppenot then delivered a low cross that defender Sheanon Williams put home to tie the game at 1-1 in the 85th minute. But the Union couldn’t get another goal to snap their winless streak, which is now at seven games.

“In the second half, ireplica soccer Jerseyt had to be different and I think we did that,” Williams said. “Even at the end, we thought that we could steal the game, so I think we have to be happy about the second-half performance and that the turnaround was a lot better than the first half.”

Unfortunately for the Union, soccer games are two halves. And for the second time this season, they left Toronto with a feeling that they could have played a lot better, from start to finish.

“The game was played on their terms and not the way we wanted to play,” Hackworth said. “That’s a classic battle in soccer. You want to try and dictate rhythm, and we certainly didn’t do that today. Toronto did.”
