Olsen took over the head coach position midway through the 2010 season and was officially named to the position on November 29 of the same year. This season, he has led the Black-and-Red to a 10-7-3 start to the 2012 campaign with the team currently sitting in fourth place in the Eastern Conference.

TUKWILA, Wash. – Multiple competitions and matches all across the continent have made the Seattle Sounders’ season a bit more complicated than most.

By winning Wednesday’s CONCACAF Champions League group stage match against Marathón (10 pm ET, Fox Soccer), the Sounders would clinch a spot in the quarterfinals for a second straight year and make the season’s goals a bit more straightforward.

"A win would put it to rest,” Sounders defender Patrick Ianni said prior to leaving for Honduras on Monday. “That [final game of the group stage] won't mean anything and we can just focus on MLS Cup when we get back."

Perhaps showing just how serious they are about taking care of business sooner than later, the Sounders have traveled with many of their starters. Among the starters to make the trip are Eddie Johnson, Fredy Montero, Osvaldo Alonso and Michael Gspurning.

Also making the trip is Mario Martínez, a native of Honduras who got his professional start with Real España, Marathón’s cross-town rival.

“For him, I think it’s a great opportunity,” Sounders head coach Sigi Schmid told the team’s website. “Everyone likes to come back to where they are from and say, 'Hey, I’m doing OK and my team’s good.' I expect a big performance out of him. I think he’s going to be very motivated and want to do well.”

Although Marathón are one of Honduras’ most decorated clubs, this year has not been a good season for them. The team, nicknamed El Monstruo Verde (The Green Monster), is currently tied for last place halfway through the Honduran Primera División’s Apertura season, though have picked up form recently, going unbeaten in their last three.

Having lost at Marathón in their 2010 meeting, the Sounders are determined not to be lulled into a false sense of security.

"I expect it to be a battle,” said Ianni, noting that the grass and weather make any game in Central America a challenge. “I think if we go in with that mentality we'll be all right. Always expect a battle. If it becomes easier, great, but don’t go in there thinking its going to be easy. We've just got to be mentally prepared to battle and we'll be good."

OBETZ, Ohio – Josh Williams walked off the practice field Wednesday and into four separate media interviews before heading into the training facility.

“It’s different,” he said of the attention. “I’m not used to it. I’ve been here three years and kind of stayed under the radar. If it means I’m playing, I’m happy with it.”

Yes, he is. Williams made his first MLS start and third career appearance when he lined up at center back alongside Chad Marshall for last Saturday’s 2-2 draw against Houston.

Williams, a former Cleveland State player, was signed in September 2010 and played in two CONCACAF Champions League matches, including a start against Joe Public of Trinidad, before the season ended.

He missed 19 games last season between a hip strain and a 10-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. He said he mistakenly took an over-the-counter supplement and apologized.

But the Crew stuck with him, and Williams played a half-dozen Reserve League games in 2011 and all four this season.

Australia Soccer Jerseys Euro 2012- Croatia silence Keane, Ireland with 3-1 victory_2

Ireland settled down after the goal and were rewarded in the 19th minute as St. Ledger got around his marker to redirect a free kick into the far corner.

With Croatia controlling the midfield, Keane didn’t see much of the ball, but had some smart touches when he did get on the ball and provided a good deal of hustle on defense. A neat piece of individual skill nearly saw him clean through on goal 10 minutes from the half when he stripped a Croatian defender, but the ball was poked away fom him at the last moment.

Croatia dealt Ireland a cruel blow on the stroke owoman soccer jerseyf halftime as Jelavic was gifted the ball in front of goal from Stephen Ward’s sliced clearance, with the Everton goal-getter making no mistake in poking the ball past Given.

The Eastern European outfit struck once more minutes after the restart as Mandzukic’s glancing header struck the post and rebounded in off Given’s head.

Ireland naturally pushed forward, needing a pair of goals in the final 40 minutes, and perhaps should’ve had a chance at a second just after the hour mark. Gordon Schildenfeld came through the back of Keane’s legs in the penalty area, only for referee Bjorn Kuipers to turn away the distraught LA Galaxy man’s pleas for a spot kick.

For the first time since the US Olympic team crashed out of the CONCACAF qualifying tournament in the group stage, US national team manager Jurgen Klinsmann met with media on Wednesday afternoon and explained what went wrong.

Kind of.

Klinsmann, who faced several questions about the shock elimination on a teleconference call, vaguely identified a handful of reasons for the ouster, but didn’t hesitate in sticking by his decision to name a college coach, Akron’s Caleb Porter, to the helm of the US Olympic team.

"I think he did a very good job," said Klinsmann, who appointed Porter back in October. "I think it was absolutely the right decision to make him the Olympic team coach. Now based on the result and the outcome of it, now you can argue that maybe a professional coach here or this and this there should have worked out better. I think we know the reason now why it didn’t work out, and it was not because he’s a college coach and not a professional coach. That’s definitely not the case."
